Office 365 for Education empowers schools and other educational organisations to enhance student learning experiences and increase pupil-teacher connectivity.
St Catherine's College in Eastbourne has recently made the transition to the web-based collaborative platform. We spoke with the school's IT Manager, Mr Marc Mulhern, to discover why they decided to make the switch and what benefits the school and student body have enjoyed so far.
The adoption of SharePoint ties in perfectly with the core ethos of St Catherine's College.
The secondary school strives to provide the very best education for every child, equipping their students with the skills and experiences necessary to reach their potential. Meanwhile, pupils remain at the heart of everything they do, and this has all been demonstrated in the SharePoint design process.
"Traditionally, schools spend a large amount of money and time setting up and maintaining servers, networks and IT infrastructure, which don't allow connectivity and mobility on the same scale as SharePoint Online," Marc explains.
"We have been able to truly put the children at the heart of this move to SharePoint, involving both the pupils and staff in every stage of the system design."
Office 365 has placed the students at St Catherine's at the centre of their own learning.
In a world where both educators and pupils are relying more on mobile devices than desktops and laptops, SharePoint enables both parties to quickly and easily obtain class materials and complete homework assignments.
"Our SharePoint system allows for a better teaching and learning experience, as it allows teachers and pupils to access vital information and resources - wherever they are in the world."
St Catherine's has been able to take full advantage of the services and capabilities SharePoint provides, including online access to widely-used Office programmes like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Sway.
Pupils and teachers no longer must worry about spending money and installing these programmes on their personal computers, they simply log onto their SharePoint environment from any device and it's waiting for them, along with resources, materials and timetables.
Classes stay connected inside and outside of the classroom whilst many barriers of studying successfully at home and away from their teachers are overcome.
"With our new system, I now have peace of mind that data is stored securely in the cloud. Everything is in one place - at the user's' fingertips," Marc adds.
In the meantime, Marc points out that, by using a suite like Office 365, the children are developing crucial skills that they'll undoubtedly need after they graduate.
"Our system is industry standard. SharePoint is currently used by businesses across the globe, so our pupils are already gaining experience with tools they'll likely be using in the future."
It was the talented team at Cloud Design Box that made the move possible for St Catherine's.
With over a decade of experience in crafting SharePoint platforms for both the education and business sector, Cloud Design Box has been able to design a solution that integrates seamlessly into the St Catherine's school day.
"I am yet to find a company that offers the same quality, bespoke service that Cloud Design Box successfully delivers each and every day," Marc enthuses.
