Microsoft has made a huge announcement – anyone with a teacher license has free access to Copilot Teach, the brand new AI tool designed specifically for educators.
In this guide, we explore how you can use the new AI-powered agent to support curriculum planning, as well as generate homework tasks and study aids.
Teach Copilot agent works with Microsoft Teams, Word and 365 Education, giving teachers more time to focus on teaching and supporting students.

What is Teach Copilot?
Teach is a new AI assistant built into Microsoft 365 Education, rolling out at no additional cost for education customers.
In one place, you can access AI-powered teaching tools to generate lesson plans, quizzes, rubrics and quickly made modifications to language, reading level, length, difficulty and alignment to relevant standards.

How to access Teach Copilot in Microsoft 365
You can access Teach Copilot via the left-hand side panel of the Microsoft 365 landing page.

Curriculum planning just got easier with Teach in Copilot.
Generate a lesson plan
It’s easy to generate a lesson plan with Teach.
Simply add the subject and description, choose a grade level, the lesson’s duration and language and it generates a plan from your prompts.
From here, you can edit the wording, add additional sections or “enhance with AI”.

Add standards and grade levels
Copilot allows you to choose standards and grades to further tailor your lesson plans.
All you need to do is select standards and grades from the relevant drop-down menus.
Note: UK standards and grades are currently unavailable in Teach.

Save and share lesson plans in OneDrive, Teams and SharePoint
Once you’ve generated your lesson plan, refined it and it’s ready to share with students or your department, you can save it in OneDrive, Teams or SharePoint as a Word Document.
Simply tap Save to OneDrive and select where you would like to save it.
Hit Save here to confirm the folder you wish to save it to.
Homework and assessment rubrics with Teach Copilot
Generate rubrics with Teach Copilot
It’s easy to generate a rubric with Teach Copilot.
Simply select the grade level and language, enter the rubric title and description and tap Next.
Note: UK standards and grades are currently unavailable in Teach.
You can then select a rubric scale, such as “Excellent, Good, Fair, Poor”, “Yes, No” or create your own custom scales.
After this, criteria can be chosen – for example, “Historical accuracy” or “Argument clarity”.
Hit Generate to generate your new rubric.
From here, you can edit the wording, add additional information or “enhance with AI”.

Save and share rubrics
Once you’ve generated you rubric, refined it and it’s ready to share with students or your department, you can save it in OneDrive, Teams or SharePoint as a Word Document.
You have the option to save your rubric as a Word Document, a CSV or save directly in Teams Assignments.
Simply tap Save to OneDrive and select where you would like to save it.
Hit Save here to confirm the folder you wish to save it to.

Study aids with Teach Copilot
Generate a flashcard with Teach Copilot
Enter learning content by typing information or uploading documents via Add content.
Select the flashcard type:
- Term and definition
- Question and answer
- Multiple choice
You can also opt to “Generate hint for each card”.
When you’re happy with your prompt, hit Generate.
From here, you can edit the wording, add additional information or “enhance with AI”.
Tap Save activity to save the flashcards.

Share flashcards with students
After saving the flashcards, you have the option to View flashcards, which opens the flashcards in Microsoft’s Learning Activities.
You can then copy the link with a join code and share with students via Teams or Teams Assignments.
