Team Spotlight in our CDB Staff Directory webpart makes it easy to filter and display specific groups of staff in your SharePoint intranet.

Here’s how it works:

About Staff Directory in SharePoint

Our CDB Staff Directory Web Part was created to help you improve communication, develop a collaborative culture and enjoy a smoother onboarding process for your new team members.

It allows you to easily create an employee directory within a few simple taps.

Learn how to set up Staff Directory here.

How to spotlight teams in SharePoint

Team Spotlight is a great addition to Staff Directory, allowing you to filter and display specific groups of staff members dynamically, giving you control over how you present your employees. For example, you can use this feature to highlight your engineering team or senior leadership.

With just a few simple steps, you can set up the Spotlight to display certain staff members, without the need for manual updates. As new employees are added to your Azure Active Directory (AAD) groups, they will automatically appear in the web part, keeping your SharePoint page always up to date.

Setting up your Team Spotlight in SharePoint

  1. Add CDB Staff Directory to SharePoint. See here.
  1. In Settings, you can choose to filter the directory by specific AAD Security Groups or Microsoft 365 Group (you probably already have this setup for departments, especially if you are using Microsoft Teams). For example, if you want to spotlight the engineering team, you can select the corresponding AAD group. The web part will now only display employees from that group.
  2. Choose either Fabric View, Large Tile View, Small Tile View, or List View. Full details of these views here.

Tip: For a Team Spotlight, the Small Tile View is often the most visually appealing. This gives a neat and professional look, showing each person’s name, title, and department.

  1. You can further refine the display by hiding certain elements, such as filters, search boxes and staff count. When highlighting a team, it’s best to hide these elements to ensure your spotlight feels focused and clean.
  1. Choose a title for your webpart, e.g. “Engineering team”
  1. Hit Publish

One of the best parts of using the Team Spotlight in the CDB Staff Directory is its dynamic nature. By filtering staff based on AAD groups, you never have to worry about manually updating the page. Whenever a new employee joins the highlighted team or group, they automatically appear in the Employee Spotlight.

For example, if you have an Engineering Team AAD group, as soon as a new engineer is added to the group, they’ll show up in your Team Spotlight without any manual intervention. Your Staff Directory remains up-to-date and relevant at all times!

Team Spotlight in CDB Staff Directory is a versatile tool that enhances your SharePoint intranet. Whether you want to showcase specific teams, spotlight new staff members, or highlight department achievements, the webpart makes it easy and dynamic.
