Teachers can save time with these tips for Microsoft Teams Assignments

Every minute counts for those who work in education, and one activity that we know teachers are always looking to save time on is homework assignments.

Did you know that Microsoft Teams Assignments is bursting with time-saving tricks? 

Below, we go through three must-know tips:



Time saving tips for Microsoft Teams Assignments

Send student reminders about upcoming assignment deadlines 

Stop wasting your time typing out email reminders or reminding students about homework during valuable lesson time.  

Instead, quickly send out a reminder notification straight to their Teams account.  

Yes, that’s right! You can send out reminders to your class about upcoming assignment deadlines.  

This gives students a nudge to complete their assignments on time, supports students stay on top of work during their busy schedules and eliminates the excuse of “I fogot” on deadline day.  

All you need to do is head to your Assignments tab in Class Teams: 

  1. Select the students you wish to send a reminder to (you can do this for individual students or your whole class).  
  1. Hit Send reminder
  1. A pop-up appears to confirm your reminder.  

A notification will be sent to each selected students reminding them to turn in the assignment. It will appear under Activity.  

Quickly extend the due date for multiple students in Microsoft Teams Assignments

You may need to extend the due date of assignments for your entire class or individual students for a number of reasons.  

For example, you may wish to give students who have been off school due to illness extra time to catch up.  

Extending the due date is as easy as a few clicks in Microsoft Teams Assignments.  

All you need to do is head to your Assignments tab in Class Teams: 

  1. Go to the assignment you wish to extend the deadline for.  
  1. Select the students you wish to extend the due date for (you can do this for individual students or your whole class).  
  1. Hit Extend due date.  
  1. Choose the new extended due date and time and hit Done.  

Bulk grading students homework in Microsoft Teams Assignments

Teachers can save a lot of time grading work by giving feedback/points to a number of students in one go.  

This works well if you only need to add brief feedback and assign a certain number of points per piece of work.  

For example, if a group of students have done a fantastic job on their homework, you can select all of them together, give them 10/10 points and add a comment, such as “Excellent work”.  

Just head to Assignments in Microsoft Teams and tap the Returned tab to start bulk grading assignments.  

  1. Select the students you wish to give the same feedback to.  
  1. Tap Add feedback and grade
  1. Enter your feedback and points (where applicable).  
  1. Hit Done to send that feedback to all selected students.
