Microsoft Teams offers a simple and time-saving way to reuse assignments you’ve already created in other classes or archived courses. Reusing Teams assignments is a great way for teachers to save time and avoid repetitive admin.
Beyond that, the ability to reuse assignments ensures consistency across different year groups and classes.
You also have the option to schedule assignments in advance, further streamlining your lesson planning.
How to reuse assignments in Microsoft Teams
- Go to the Class Team to which you want to assign the new task.
- Tap Assignments.
- Select Create and then hit From Existing.

A list of assignments will appear, showing the ones from your current year’s classes across the year groups you teach.
Note: To select an assignment from a previous academic year, scroll down to view your archived classes.
4. Tap the class you want to reuse the assignment from.
5. Browse through the assignments within that class and select the one you wish to reuse.
6. Tap Next.
Edit your reused assignment
Once the assignment is opened, you have full editing capabilities.
You can edit:
- Title and instructions
- Attachments
- Due dates
- Class distribution
- Rubric
- Assignment tags
- Turn/on off the Reflect tool
Assign a reused assignment in Microsoft Teams
- Tap Assign to assign the task immediately.
- Alternatively, Schedule the assignment for a future date.
- Or, if you’re not ready to assign or schedule, you can save it as a draft and come back to it later.
